During the late 19th and 20th century, U.S. expansionism departed from earlier expansionism in terms of geography and economics. They began to expand westward because they believed god had shown them the way in doing so. The U.S., in the beginning was just wanting to go west but in reality they wanted everything and in return they gained more land. They wanted more, so they expanded from the Atlantic to the Pacific and gained hawaii, cuba and the philippines. Many people wanted to go west because they believed it would help them with the agricultural and farming land. Expansionism was a departure, preserving their main idea, geography and politics. The U.S. held onto the believe that god have chosen them for the Manifest Destiny (Doc E) and with that, they wanted land that did not originally and rightfully belong to them.

While the U.S. was expanding their lands, Germany and Britain were beginning to gain land and power through the lower power countries they had chosen (Doc A). Many American citizens believed that the expansion was necessary because they wanted to strengthen their trading market and limit the power of European nations and Japan (Doc C). During the Manifest Destiny the U.S. expanded through the Louisiana purchase and gained land from the Mexican-American war and land from Russia
