The blood on the colonistÕs hands were to gain their freedom, to be their own entity against the British. but now the blood on American hands are from trying to take freedom from others. If this is AmericaÕs idea of imperialism, then imperialism is hypocrisy. The United States should have not annexed the Philippines. As Abe Lincoln says, government should not be forced, the people should have a say in their government, and it contradicts AmericaÕs ideals against tyranny. Government should not be forced. Document A shows the perspective of the antiimperialists who state that government control should be consensual, not taken away forcefully. If the Philippines is annexed, the whole fundamentals of the American government and democracy would be overshadowed by such a hypocritical decision like annexing the Philippines. Document D also suggests that imperialism is like a gun that only induces violence. Government should be consensual, if not America would be the epitome of hypocrisy. Annexing the Philippines contradicts AmericaÕs ideals against tyranny. In Document A, Abe Lincoln addresses that if government is nonconsensual, it is despotism, which leads to tyranny. Without democracy, AmericaÕs ideals against tyranny are contradicted by annexing the Philippines.
