In this rapidly changing business environment, today's workforce continues to grow culturally. Diversity is a new concept that shapes American corporations. People with different social and ethnic origins, cultures, and beliefs are increasingly shaping the staff and management of American companies. "Diversity is defined as acknowledging, understanding, accepting and valuing the differences among people with respect to age, class, ethnicity, gender, physical, and mental ability, race, sexual orientation, religion, and public assistance status (Esty,Griffin,& Schorr-Hirsh 1995)." In the workplace, diversity brings people of different backgrounds together and with them different ideas and different strengths. "Diversity in the workplace is a central issue for contemporary organizational management (Choi, &Rainey., 2010)." Diversity issues are considered important and are projected to become even more important in the future because of increasing differences in the United States population. "Managing and valuing diversity is a key component of effective people management, which can improve workplace productivity (Black Enterprise, 2001)."

This is a broad topic. It did not take much to find my sources. I first used the ProQuest database. I have never used this database. I was nervous about searching for my sources because this is one of my weaknesses I have when researching after I typed in my keywords. I found a ton of articles. I began to go through them and read the articles to see which would fit my paper the best. I learned new things about diversity I did not ever know. I found four sources from ProQuest and two others from online sources. This research process was straightforward and was not as hard as I thought it would be.
