Why are human wants unlimited? (4 marks)

Since all human beings want to live and survive we need the basics that will help us to make this possible, food, clothing and shelter. However, human beings do not conform with what they have, they always want more which lead us to the statement of human wants being unlimited. Wants are the psychological desires that are not essential in our daily basics but that make our lives joyful and enjoyable.

The desire for increasing the quality of life have led to emergence and growth of more wants. Furthermore, the rise of the world’s population and new inventions and discoveries allow human’s wants to grow and be infinite. According to a recent study more people on earth have access to cell phones than toilets. “Out of the world’s estimated 7 billion people, 6 billion have access to mobile phones. Far fewer only 4.5 billion people – have access to working toilets.[1]” This is a good example example to understand how human wants are unlimited. Having a toilet is a need because it is essential for our personal hygiene and health. However, human beings are more likely to have a phone because it is a trend and they find it as an essential necessity nowadays instead of a want. This is a big problem in todays society as we do not know how to differentiate between needs and wants. We see many things that are not completely necessary as essentials.
