Manners Have Changed over Time

Growing up in the past isn't what it is today. My brother and me were taught at a very young age that it is very respectable to have manners. If parents do not take the time out of their lives to teach their children proper etiquette and manners, then I think manners will eventually fade away over time due to lack of use. Over time manners have changed due to people's own selfishness, lack of parenting skills and influences in the media. Throughout my 37 years I have been alive I have noticed how much people have become more and more selfish. Everyone is in such a big hurry to get where they are going that they do not have time for manners anymore. For example, once I was leaving Mcdonald’s and someone had held the door open for this lady, but she was so busy talking on her cell phone she had glued to her ear that she didn’t say thank you to the person holding the door. I see things like that everyday. People have become so self-absorbed that they have lost all consideration for one another.

A parent’s time spent with their children has a tremendous impact on their life and their manners. Most of the time parents can be so wrapped up into their own stressed out lives that they do not have the time to teach their children proper manners. I am one that believes that it is a parent’s duty to teach their children manners, which very well goes hand in hand with consideration and respect. You cannot always be with your child 24/7; however as a parent wouldn’t you want the comfort of knowing that your child is displaying the manners that you taught them? If alot of parents would just take time out of their day to sit down and talk with their kids manners just might become stronger over time.
