What is preface?

A preface is an introduction to a book or other literary work written by the work’s author. It is a preliminary statement in a book by the book's author or editor, setting forth its purpose and scope, expressing acknowledgment of assistance from others, etc.

Function of preface:

A preface generally covers the story of how the book came into being or how the idea for the book was developed. This is often followed by thanks and acknowledgments to people who were helpful to the author during the time of writing.

Preface in the translation of novel “Raja Gidh”:

In the novel “Raja Gidh” the translator has not translated the preface of the novel rather he has written author’s note and described the story of the novel and also described how the writer has written it and the worth of her work.

“Author’s Notes” is used at the beginning or the end of a story.  Every Author’s Note is never the same. It always depends on what the author wants their readers to know.

Do translators’ prefaces frequently appear in translation in Pakistan?

Yes, translators’ prefaces frequently do appear in translation in Pakistan. The writers in Pakistan also translate the prefaces while translating the works of other writers or their own work as Umera Ahmad has translated the foreword to her novel Peer e Kamil. And in some novels like Alchemist is translated by Umer Al Ghazali and he also has translated the preface of the novel.

Preface to the King James Version 1611

The Holy Bible Containing the Old and New Testaments Translated out of the Original Tongues and with the Former Translations Diligently Compared & Revised Set forth in 1611 and commonly known as the King James Version.

HIS MAJESTY'S CONSTANCY, NOT WITH STANDING CALUMNIATION, FOR THE SURVEY OF THE ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS:

This, and more to this purpose, His Majesty that now reigned (and long, and long may he reign, and his offspring forever, "Himself and children, and children's always) knew full well, according to the singular wisdom given unto him by God, and the rare learning and experience that he hath attained unto; namely that whosoever attempteth anything for the public (especially if it pertain to Religion, and to the opening and clearing of the word of God) the same setteth himself upon a stage to be gloated upon by every evil eye, yea, he casteth himself headlong upon pikes, to be gored by every sharp tongue.
