Unbroken

We have all read astonishing stories of people surviving different situations because of different reasons; wither the reason be fate, chance, nature, or environment all that matters is the survival story. The element of nature influences Louie Zamperini’s survival in “Unbroken” along with fearlessly keeping calm, being determined to live, and being fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to live.

Louie was able to keep calm in extreme situations. When most people freeze up and lose their head Louie keeps his cool and reacts to difficult situations. “Pillsbury could see the men inside, and his mind briefly registered that all of them were about to die. Super Man was alone. Louie kept his focus below, trying to aim for the parked planes,” (Hillenbrand, pg. 94). In this situation Phil had doubts but Louie focused on the task at hand. His extreme focus could have saved their lives at this time; if not helped them stay alive. Louie was purely determined to finish his job.

Louie’s determination kept him alive in times of need. He never gave up hope no matter what the situation was. “Louie knew that he had to get Phil’s bleeding stopped, but if he went to him, the raft would be lost and all of them would perish,” (Hillenbrand pg.125). At this time of dire importance Louie knew what decision would help him more in the long run. Louie also knew that Phil would have told him to do the same thing instead of being foolish and losing
