“De-extinction”

Although the possibility of De-extinction may be possible, it shouldn’t be done because even if we bring the species back to existence we would still need to reduce their cause of extinction or else they will go extinct once again.

Scientists should not bring extinct species back to life for multiple reasons, one being that it isn’t a natural occurrence. Whenever we interfere in the natural cycle of life in nature there is always a negative outcome. This is usually how species go extinct, because we interfere with the natural way of nature. Although De-extinction could benefit us, the reason species go extinct is due to the nature damaging habits of humans. Therefore in order to actually bring the species back we would need to recreate their living conditions so they could survive.  Text 1 line 33-36 supports this claim by stating “The only way to do this is by aggressively reducing the causes of extinction, including habitat destruction, climate change, pollution, and extraction.” This supports my claim because it explains that the only way to truly stop extinction is to dramatically reduce the causes, which are mainly caused by us. Another reason we should not bring the extinct back to life is stated in Text 3 lines 7-15 “De-extinction intends to resurrect single, charismatic species, yet millions of species are at risk of extinction” This quote from the text illustrates that we are focusing on how to resurrect a single species that help prevent thousands from going extinct. Although De-extinction could be very beneficial in the future we need to focus more on the problems at present. Although in text 2 lines 16-18 scientist claim they can only bring back species that have gone extinct  within the past few tens of thousands years ago, I'm confident that as we are more technologically advanced we will find a way to bring back extinct animals from much further back, and the outcome of that is unimaginable.
