        Habit 1 – Be Proactive                                GE-109L-S02

The first value is experience. We gain experience through events that we endure in life. The events that have happened to me can have an effect on my future. An example is the experience of living with roommates. I have lived alone before and my study habits were never hindered. Having roommates while a student here at SDSU causes obstacles I will have to overcome to focus on my studies. I spend more time in the library than any other year I have ever been in college.

The second value is creativity. The things we develop into existence are our creative values. My focusing on the negative effects of roommates is simply creating a stress. My roommates are not unbearable. One never leaves his room and barely ever goes to class. The other is hardly ever home other than night and is usually active while I am trying to sleep. I create this image in my head that they are a nuisance to live with. I also have a girlfriend who is currently living 4 hours away. I have created this relationship with her and the distance is hard to bear. We talk daily and see each other at least once or twice a month.

The third value is my attitude. My attitude causes many ups and downs with life. The roommates are not as intolerable as I make them sound. I try and focus my attention on ways to cope with the stress. I wake up at 4:00 in the morning to study at home because everyone else is asleep. I know that being distant from my girlfriend is hard but the positive attitude toward each other is having a good impact on our relationship. We really do cherish the moments we get to spend together.

The three values have shaped me to where I am today as a student. I foresee myself continuing down the path I have been going as a student. I have 3 semesters left of school. I feel like it should be downhill from here. I plan to keep a positive attitude towards the situations I endure.
