Who was Karl Marx? Karl Marx was a philosopher, social scientist, historian but he is worldly known for being a revolutionist and socialist thinker he is the most influential socialist thinker to emerge in the 19th century. He was born in Tier, Germany as Karl Heinrich Marx on May 5, 1818. He enrolled at the age of seventeen, in the Faculty of Law at the University of Bonn. While there he met and became engaged to the daughter of Baron von Westphalen, a prominent member of the Trier society. He also credits him as being the man responsible for getting him interested in Romantic literature and Saint-Simonian politics. His father sent him to the University of Berlin the following year where he remained four years. While there he grew distance from his interest in romanticism during the Hegelianism era which ruled in Berlin at the time.
