TOK in Real Life

The other day when I was in school I was arguing with a friend about a subject that I saw on the T.V and my view on what should or shouldn’t have happened. This relates to theory of knowledge because I had to try and understand my other friend’s perception or view of what point they were arguing. That way I could see a broader picture of what she and I were talking about, making different points.

When I was in school I noticed a girl wearing a very revealing outfit, I normally try not to judge what people wear and what they do but it was very hard for me in this circumstance. It seems that the world today is full of judgement no matter what people do, say or wear in this situation. We always have a person against us. And that made me think does every moral judgement depend on the circumstances?

When I tell my mom a situation I’m in and she tries to help me and give me her best advice, I trust her, I have faith in her. But recently a difficult situation I went through I told her about it and she gave me advice like normal but her advice didn’t work…at all. And that’s when I realized that maybe I need more than one perspective than just her so I can extend my view and try different things. The faith I have in her doesn’t always provide me with true knowledge.

When someone asks me what flavor slushie I want, I don’t say “cherry,” I say “red.” That flavor is called “red.” “Blue” is another flavor a slushie might have. Similarly, a cherry smell especially the chemically cherry smell of a red slushie is a red smell. That one’s easy, since cherries are red. It doesn’t take a wild leap to make that association. But what color is the smell of, say, soap? So who came up with the idea of calling the flavors of things as their colors? If you say red that could mean a lot of different flavors; cherry, watermelon, strawberry, etc. So why have the confusion, instead just say the proper name?

I have a lot of nostalgia these days. From growing up and having tons of great memories with friends and family. I love the moments that I share with these people so I think about the memories a lot, but I realized that some of my memories are altering I know this because I keep a journal. What I remember thoughtfully and what I wrote down are sometimes two completely different things. So can I really trust my memory for certain situations? What causes me to remember somethings but not others?

I went to a show the other night with my friends and it was interactive. They had a magician there and they played a trick on me and my friends. We had to guess which box had the correct object in it, I got it wrong and my other friend got it right. Maybe it was a simple guess but I was almost positive that I was going to get it. After wards it made me think how my friend guessed it right. What makes some people more intuitive than others?
