Driving Age

Some people are discussing the driving age for teenagers. How it should be raised or lowered. I am going to explore both sides and in the end choose one for my self. The different sides include; Keep the age the same, lowering it, and raising it, of just making it to where you can get your permit earlier but still drive at 16. The age for driving could change over the next couple of years, so there will be positive and negative consequences.

If we keep the age at 16 and not change it at all it will not have that many effects on people. I mean, people will still be in school and be able to take test and learn at school. More people will pay for insurance because they will have jobs. Why should we even change the age? It seems like it has been working for years why change something good. But it isn’t exactly good is it. Many teens are not mature or capable enough to drive yet. And because of that the crash rate for teens is very high. Most of car accidents are involving teens, and two out of five teens killed in an accident are involved with cars crashes. One other thing is that many of these kids that are driving do not have jobs. There for the can not pay for their car and insurance by themselves.

Like I said before some people feel that the state should lower the age. Why the heck are the people saying that? 16 is low enough, anything lower is just suicide. Now if anything good about it would be this. Parent wouldn’t have to drive there kids to work of friends houses. But really when you have a kid you know you are going to have to do that, its part of being a parent. Think about the parents would feel if their kids were driving earlier. They would be continently worrying about them. Kids would most likely start to drink and party, because they would be alone with friends a lot more. So many kids would also be drinking and driving. So even more kids would be dieing just from one law being changed. So lowering the age for driving if defiantly out of the question. It would risk many lives and many kids would die an unnecessary death.

Now what if they changed the age to get your permit? Like if you could get it when you were 15 instead of 16. Then you still get you license when you’re at least 16 and a half. By doing this the kids will be with there parents so this wouldn’t be that bad an idea. You would get more practice, and have much more timer to learn about the car and laws before you can even go on the road by yourself. By driving with there kids for a while parents will learn to trust them and their driving skills more then they would in recent days. By doing this, parents will most likely get tired of continently driving with there kids. But really they could drive when you go to get groceries or shoes, or whatever you’re going. So by lowering the permit age kids will get more practice with there parents so this wouldn’t be that bad of an idea. At least on the teenagers’ part.

One of the best ideas that have spreading around has been that the government may raise the age to 18. That will cause a lot of controversy with teens, because
