  1. Introduction

According to Wikipedia, fast food is a type of mass-produced food that is prepared and served very quickly. Drive-through restaurants were first popularized in the 1950s in the United States. The food is typically less nutritionally valuable compared to other foods and dishes. While any meal with low preparation time can be considered fast food, typically the term refers to food sold in a restaurant or store with preheated or precooked ingredients, and served to the customer in a packaged form for take-away

Nowadays, Vietnamese is affected by American in food and drinks. Moreover, time is more and more highly valuable, so it’s necessary to save time in eating. Therefore, fast food of American is loved very quickly, especially the youth.

  1. Fast food in Vietnam

At the beginning of 1990s, the economic in Vietnam has been developing. Therefore, many famous companies on the world invested big-invested capital in many fields in Vietnam. The firms of fast food was also. They began to open restaurants in some big cities. With a warm welcome, many firms of fast food was founded to serve Vietnamese: Burger King, Domino Pizza, KFC, Lotteria, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut and Popeyes.

Most restaurants are located in busy areas like large supermarkets, main streets and tourism destinations in order to attract more customers. Each has very huge and eye-catching electric signboard with its familiar logo so loyal customers can easily recognize their favorite chain from a far distance.

Fast food revenue in Vietnam in 2015 was VND16, 679 billion (USD747.2 million), increase by 9% percent over 2014, according to the Euro monitor International.

  1. Impact of fast food on the lives of contemporary Vietnamese people

Fast food are more popular and makes eating choices of Vietnamese more copious. In other words, fast food changes eating behavior of Vietnamese. According to survey of Online Market Research, notable results of fast food eating behavior will be said bellow:

Traditional food (53%), fast food (50%) and canned food (49%) are used the most in Vietnam.

50% people use fast food at least 2-3 times/month.

71% “likes” or “likes very much” about fast food.

47% are regular fast food user. Ratio for male and youth are higher.

Hang our friends are most common. 30’s use there as family hang out as well.

47% stay at the restaurant more than 1 hour.

  1. Advantages

First, fast food saves a lot of time. In a very fast pace of life today, there is nothing better than getting a ready meal. At the end of a hard working day, when one returns home all tired and hungry, a pizza or a hamburger can be a priority. “Convenient and save time” is also the most chosen reason for using fast food in survey of Di-marketing.
