Personal Dilemma

Working with clients who are referred to Outpatient treatment by a judge for drug counseling, there are many forms that have to be completed by the client as well as staff who may have contact with the client. Contact will start with the front desk to the intake staff.

Before client's sign are admitted into the program they have to attend orientation regarding Outpatient treatment. Once the client have understanding what is expected of them while enrolling into Outpatient treatment the clients are assigned to a counselor to complete all paper work. The forms are explained to the clients regarding confidential. These forms are very important because we have to let the clients know that what every is spoke in group remain in group unless something is said to help self or others.

Clients are also informed that a weekly report will be sent to his or her probation officer regarding his or her progress while in outpatient treatment. The following information will be send regarding negative or positive urine test, attendance for group and individual session.

One of my clients had to provide me a urine drug test; he was giving the urine cup and was witness by a male staff on duty with me. The client provided a false urine test, by having another client provide his urine for him. I ask the male staff how did this happen, and he told me that the client most have passed a balloon full of his urine to him while waiting to be tested. How this information was attain by other clients overheard them talking about it.

During my individual session with the client who falsified his drug test, I went over all forms that he had signed regarding treatment, and ask him if he could explain to me what do it mean by if you appear to hurt self or others or violated any terms of your probation? He was able to give me the answer that I was looking for. I did inform him that the urine test he provided was falsifying urine test and that I would have to report it to his probation officer, and not only did he hurt self, but could have put others in jeopardy because of his action.

I made a phone call to his parents to let them know what was going on with their son, and request a meeting with them. The parents arrived at their son individual session to discuss what has taking
