San Francisco Discussion

What rights should parents have when making medical decisions for their children? I believe parents should be able to make most medical decisions for their children as long as it isn’t harming their health or others around them health. I believe most parents have their children’s best interests at heart and want to protect them from diseases, pain and harm. I believe it is the parents’ rights to decide if their child is circumcised. I have a hard time sometimes when parents do not immunize their children especially if their children is in the public school system. To expose other children to diseases that could have been preventative if their child was immunized I think is wrong.

Should a parent be prosecuted if they deny medical treatment to their children? Why? I think parents should only be prosecuted if they deny medical treatment to their child if the child could have been saved by a medical procedure. Also, if the child has a serious medical condition and there are treatment options available for the child that possibly could work and the parents do not give them the treatments I also believe the parents should be prosecuted.

What if a procedure was medically unnecessary, yet the parents performed procedure for religious purposes? As long as the medical procedure did not cause serious health problems or pain for their child I believe that the parents should have the right to perform medical procedure for religious purposes. Things like circumcision happen usually days after the child is born so I believe the pain they feel if any from that is minimal.
