With VOIP technology coming into play there are several advantages and disadvantages to consider. Advantages include lower cost, increased functionality, and freer innovation. As far as drawbacks go there are also a few to consider, such as reliability, emergency calls, integration into existing technology and a single point of calling.

There are several main advantages to VOIP service. The first one to discuss is the overall lower cost. VOIP has several things going for it to help reduce cost primarily that it uses a single network to carry both voice and data.
