Essay title: Future of Mondernization
Many years ago a society was limited and small. Life was much different. Where was the next meal going to come from, was the wife worthy of making a child, men raging war on men, and gun carried as if the where the law themselves. A world where trees where a plenty and the air was clean, clear, and fresh is what they seen. A time where women stayed at home covered from head to toe in cloth and was battered otherwise, and with no regards people hung in the streets like savages beasts. As we transition from war to war and law to law many attitudes and beliefs begin to change. Families began there Sunday mornings in church listening to the gospel being sung for miles and the word of God being preached for even more miles. Over time people changed and why have they changed? The unending answer to a very old question is modernization. There are many theories to how and what causes such change and why things do change and as time passes that question can be answered with modernization.
Many sociologist such as Ferdinand Tonnies theorized that population, urbanization, and environment played key roles in modernization. His theory states that society has evolved the way it has for reasons of loss. The loss of social wellness, tradition, and a sense of belonging created by industrialization, urbanization, and any other life altering social change that is made.
Macionis stated that …the industrial revolution weakened the social fabric of family and tradition by introducing a business like emphasis on facts, efficiency, and money (2006). His uses the terms gemeinschaft and gesellschaft are terms that Tonnies uses to describe modernization. Some differences between the two descriptions incorporate cultural patterns such as low or high tolerance for diversity. Modern societies are more at easy with diversity unlike past counterparts. As time passes every day the close nit community that was once known and thrived slowly fades as industrialization controls the social changes in everyday life. As we move into the upcoming years, will we continue to grow further from tradition? Will we lose what traditional families we have left? I say yes for the most part. Everyday technology and savvy business men and women give the world new ideas and the opportunities to make change. If we look at the changes that have happened in the last ten years we can see that our society battles this image of just being a number. We become this system that is created by the government; we are put into categories and labeled by how much we fit into today’s society. We as a society pull away from what is traditional and build a life based on popularity and wealth, instead of family and happiness.
As we look ahead to the future we can see that many things will continue to change. Government will continue to grow and the rise of capitalism will continue to affect us as individuals and as a whole. Modernity and the class society or mass society will progress. People we see as liberals will welcome individualism and with the individualistic minds will come a greater sense of loss to the traditional beliefs. Class society will be greatly affected by the notion that as each group becomes more individualized the opportunities for equality will decrease. Life as we
