Essay title: Why Not Speak

Some may ask what the problem is with not only not wanting to express your feelings, but also being mute. When someone one goes silent on us in regular life, we ask them what is wrong. But, in Melinda’s situation, no one really cares unless it’s stirring up trouble. She could be mute all her life and people would just dismiss her as a freak and send her on her way. Now, think of that scenario with you in Melinda’s shoes. I wouldn’t even need to ask you whether or not you felt like you were dead or wanted to die. We all need to communicate with other intelligent beings who can give you a sense of social acceptance in a way that you could go home everyday and at least have something you feel completed your day no matter how bad it was. In the movie ‘Sphere’, the humans made contact with a being who had been neglected from the outside world and he had the power to manifest whatever he wanted. In result, whenever the voyagers let this being to be alone and not talk to him, he manifested the worst possible things that he could imagine and ended up killing just about everyone. This confirms just how important it is to be connected to a social environment, because without one, we would think of things that could cause mass destruction to others and yourself.
