What is human resources management?
One of the functions within an organization is the Human Resources department. The function of the Human Resources department within an organization would be that of recruitment, management, and providing direction for the employees of the organization. Human Resources Management deals with types of issues related to compensation, hiring, performance management, benefits, employee motivation, and communication, administrative, and training. In a few company's human resources can be performed by line managers.
In the past human resources would do the administrative duties of an organization, like handling the benefits of employees, recruiting and hiring of new employees according to the policies established by upper management? Presently human resources workers take on this responsibility. Human resources meet with management regarding strategic plans that will suggest and change current policies.
Within a large corporation such as Waste Management, the human resources department will supervise several departments; each department is managed by an experience manager. This manager most likely specializes in one human resources activity, like employment or placement, compensation and benefits, and development and training.
What is the primary function of human resources management?
A primary function of a human resources manager is that of making sure the right person is hired for the right job. The interviewing and hiring process is done by the human resources manager, along with other duties, controlling and overseeing employee benefits, promoting the needs of employees. Human resources also oversee health and life insurance, along with any retirement plans the organization might offer.
Each organization has policies that need to be followed by all employees. These types of policies would be substance abuse, personal leave, and vacation time. A few other functions of a human resources manager would be, understanding employees as individuals and identifying the needs and career goals, developing and maintaining the interaction between workers, identify areas that lack knowledge and can benefit from future training.
Human resources functions refer to those tasks and duties performed in both large and
small organizations to provide for and coordinate human resources. Human resources functions encompass a variety of activities that significantly influence all areas of an organization.
The Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) has identified six major
functions of human resources management:
1. Human resources planning, recruitment, and selection.
2. Human resources development.
3. Compensation and benefits.
4. Safety and health.
5. Employee and labor relations.
6. Human resources research.
