Equality
The rights of “Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness “as declared in the Declaration of independence, have generally been contradicted to certain groups of Americans. Groups like African American as well as to the women.
African Americans had a rough time establishing their rights. One of the reason for this is segregation. Meaning blacks were separated from whites. Blacks used different public bathrooms, restaurants, and while riding the bus they had to go in the back of the bus. Two efforts that were contrived was the court case of Plessy V Ferguson which was held in 1896. Which was a decision because in the debts of Jim Crow laws Homer Plessy, enter a train he sit in the whites only section of the car. The Louisiana law restricted him as a black man and because he refused to move, he was arrested. The courts found that the 14th amendment had not been violated this is because the case was in matter of the 14th amendment also that law separated races as a choice of public policy. On January 1897, Homer Plessy pled guilty to the violation and paid what was asked. Another effort that was made was the civil rights act which aforesaid it was illegal to divide any public area. This two efforts being made African Americans were on the side to stop segregation for Shure.
