Should the Middle Ages and Renaissance Be Classified as Two Distinct Time Periods?
The Middle Ages and the Renaissance occurred at two different time periods. During the Middle Ages, the main focus was feudalism which was a way of structuring society in that present time whereas during the Renaissance time period, focus was human beings and their secular needs before they even thought of religious ideas and values. With the Renaissance’s very few unique advances, it was distinct from the Middle Ages.
One of my reasons for believing that the Renaissance and the Middle Ages should be classified as distinct from one another is because of the difference between the people from these two time periods. People from the Middle Ages saw each other as a whole to survive. During the Renaissance period everyone focused moreso on themselves spiritually. According to Petrarch , a humanist, care for life on earth should man be concerned. This is the complete opposite from the Medieval Man. The medieval believed that concern should be focused on God and getting to heaven. That’s how the two distinct times went about their lives.
In document 5 it talks about how there is a change taking place. This big change is that during the Renaissance time period people are starting to stray away from churches. The main reason for people leaving the churches was because people felt as though they were being taken advantage of. Religious orders cared only for money and sensuality. Priests who ran the church , condemned money from the congregation and even from the poor. Their excuse for this money was that if they paid the priests, the priests themselves could cleanse them and take away their sins by
