Do you see me now?
Coming from another state, having to go to a whole new school and make new friends was really hard for me when I came from New York to Texas. I am not a real friendly person or lack of people skills. Making friends was the hardest thing I was doing when I came to Texas. I always tried to be like someone or try to dress a certain way just to impress people and become popular. Metzger Middle School was the school I started attending when I moved here.
I loved the school, the staff and sometimes even the twenty-five cent sugar cookies they used to have. I used to get four sugar cookies when it was lunch time and I would save them throughout the rest of the school day. When other students first saw me, they automatically knew I was a new kid. Girls whispering gossip to their friends, to dudes giving me an ugly look. People would come up to me asking me questions like “Where are you from?” or “So how was New York like? Do you like Texas?”
One question I would never forget is “Do you smell bad just like New York?” When I looked over to see who asked the question, I already knew he was just looking for trouble. He had a mad dog face looking like he wanted to get me upset and say something, but I ignored his question and didn’t bother answering it. The only place where I thought I can be myself at now became a nightmare. I never thought me out of all people would be a bully victim. I didn’t defend myself; I let him bully me throughout middle school. He would try to take my lunch money, make him buy him food for lunch and even trying to start a fight with me sometimes.
