, when I first started taking classes, which feels like many years ago, I was going to be a paralegal. After taking some research classes, I guess you could say I got bored. Knowing that I can retire from my job with having thirty years and being a young age of 48, I wanted something that I could probably do right from my home and help out with my husbands business. So after looking in to different occupations, I decided to give accounting a try. I think accounting is very challenging for me and I do like a challenge.
In the accounting field, it seems that there are a variety of opportunities. When doing my research, I did find out that there are four types of accountants and they are public accountants, which I think this is the field of accounting that I want to do, management accountants, internal auditors, and government accountants. With all four of these the work that would be performed is accounting, auditing, tax and consulting work, which the consulting work seems like me also. Most accountants work in offices with a normal 40 hour work week. If you are a tax accountant you can expect to burn the midnight oil during tax season. Of course, this will be a tax accountants busiest time of year. There are other jobs that you can do with an accounting degree, such as being an actuary, bookkeeping clerks, cost estimators, financial analyst and loan officers.
It seems that the number one function of an accountant is keeping track of a company’s money. If you want to be an accountant, you will need a college degree in accounting. To be a public accountant you will need to be certified and have a license from the State you live in. There are some employers who want you to have masters degree in business or accounting.
I think a pro to becoming an accountant, I want to be a public accountant, you can have your own business and actually work out of the home and this is a good thing for taxes because you can claim working out of your home. I do know that I will have to worry about paying my own taxes. You can take on as many accounts as you feel you can handle and build a good cliental. Once your business name has gotten around from the clients that you have, your business as an accountant can only grow from there.
