Being a career activist in my personal career means different things, but most important is to be prepared to” live in an uncertain work world, where the only certainty is me, my skills, my flexibility, and my capacity to adapt to change”. This requires an individual to be an optimist and believe in him/her self. To manage my career effectively, I need to identify the unique talents and personal values that define who I am, what I do, and what I care about. Being able to identify and prepare for opportunities rather than expecting anyone else to guide me along or do reconnaissance. It is also being entrepreneurial looking for opportunity, undertaking enterprises that provide opportunities as well as risks. Based on 12 New Rules for Success by Barbara Moses, these rules are influencing me in pursuit of my career of choice and how they might also influence how I structure my Career Portfolio. Among those twelve new rules, the most important ones for me are: - keep on learning, understands business trends, and to be kind to myself.
First of all, keep learning is very important since in today’s world things are constantly changing. Skills required to perform a certain duties are ever changing so life long learning is necessary. So, this requires me to stay current in my own field and to develops skills and knowledge outside it; take courses, reads books, develop and practice new skills. For people who want to find a new job, or keep the job they have, this new world of work demands new attitudes, new skills, and new responsibilities. There is no longer any such thing as job security. No employer is going to guarantee you a job for life. Companies are trying to survive in a world in which change is constant, in which new competitors suddenly appear, and demanding customers are always clamoring for new products and services. The first priority of companies is to counteract the competition and fulfill the demands of their customers. Keeping employees is not a priority.
