Introduction

Interpersonal skill is regarded as one of the important features of management effectiveness. It is very important for students of business colleges to conduct effective communication with others in various cultural environments. Therefore, the class aims to strengthen critical thinking of students through communication and exchange and encourage individual development through the providing of work opportunities in cross-cultural teams in module exercise; in addition, it provides opportunities for reflection.

This paper is divided into two parts. The first part involves in self-evaluation, and I will evaluate and criticize myself on competence and skills according to related knowledge and personnel experiences. The second part includes the development plan for the next 6 months and the two specific competences that I will further exercise within the next six months.

Section 1

In this part, I will start with the aspect of culture, and lay emphasis on the description to the following two points and give my evaluation by combining of my competences.

Firstly, communicating across cultures, which refer to the process of mutual transfer, communication and understanding on information, knowledge and emotion between people with different cultural backgrounds in a cross-cultural organization. Cultural differences are caused due to different regions and nations (Goman, 2011). Therefore, cross-cultural communication may happen between different countries or different cultural groups. It is available to observe cultures on aspects of communicating and language, self-awareness and space, value system and standard as well as belief and attitude. It is an essential skill for an international leader to conduct successful cross-national management only with fluent skills on cross-cultural communication (Browaeys & Price, 2015). The elimination of differences between different cultures is the core problem for cross-cultural communication. Firstly, managers must admit and understand the existence of cultural differences between different countries, and it is important to pay attention to the learning and understanding on languages and cultures of other countries, which is the essential condition for cross-cultural communication and management. As for managers, the understanding on cultural differences includes the implications of two layers. Firstly, it is necessary to understand the way that the culture of the host country affects the behaviors of local employees; secondly, it is essential to understand the way that the culture of the home country affects the behaviors of the dispatched managers by enterprises. It is necessary to overcome cultural differences of different types with different measures. Secondly, it is necessary to treat cultural differences in a dialectic way, and take both the advantages and the disadvantages into consideration, and utilize the differences embodied by utilizing different cultures in a proper and sufficient way. It is necessary to choose some cooperators with different ideas when selecting cooperative partners, which may lead to dispute on ideas, giving rise to new ideas and new cultures. Smooth cross-cultural communication will become the source for power and innovation for enterprise development, but not barrier for management. In addition, there are numerous cross-cultural exchanges during my daily life, which can be learnt through management level and practiced through daily cross-cultural exchanges. I found the differences in dealing with things between northerners and westerners during my internship before, and westerners prefer to express their own demands in a direct and clear way. I contacted with overseas students other countries due to my opportunities in study abroad, which makes me feel about cultural impact and the importance of effective communication.
