History of The Home Depot
As you can see the stock that we charted for this project was the Home Depot’s stock. The Home Depot was founded by two men Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank. Their original partnership was called MB associates and they officially incorporated on June 29, 1978. They did change their company name obviously to The Home Depot. They opened their first store on June 22, 1979 in Atlanta Georgia. They have been growing ever since then. By the year 1990 they had 145 stores and $3.8 billion in sales. As of today they have 2,045 stores, 355,000 associates, and $81.5 billion in sales. The Home Depot has come a long way in twenty eight years. They have never merged with any company’s but they have bought out several supply companies. Some of the company’s that they have bought are Hughes Supply, National Water Works, Contractors Warehouse, and White Cap. That is only some of the few company’s that they have bought out. “Home Depot’s unique culture is built on associate dedication and a commitment to an “orange-blooded” entrepreneurial spirit.” (homedepot.com)The Home Depot has some very good and respectable values such as: taking care of their people, giving back to the community, doing the right thing, excellent customer service, creating shareholder value, building strong relationships, entrepreneurial spirit, and respect for all people. The Home Depot’s main goal is to challenge their associates to find the best products for their customers, provide the best work environment for their associates, have a positive impact on the communities that they operate in, and provide excellent returns for their stockholders.
The Area That Home Depot Operates in and Their Product Lines/Mix
The Home Depot currently has 2,079 stores in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and St. Thomas. They also have 34 EXPO design centers in the U.S. and they have 900 Home Depot supply centers. They offer many different types of home improvement product lines such as: Appliances, Bath, Building Supplies, Electrical, Electronics, Flooring, Furniture, Garden Center, Heating and Cooling, Holiday, Home Dйcor, Kitchen, Lighting and Fans, Outdoor Living, Outdoor Power Equipment, Power Tools, Plumbing, and Storage and Organization. As you can see you can get just about any thing that you need there to build or repair homes. The Home Depot offers 40,000 different types of products, with a wide variety of different brands such as: Skil, Bosch, DeWalt, Milwaukee, Maytag, GE, Fedders, Rigid, and Coleman. That is only a few of the many different brands that The Home Depot has to offer.
CEO Robert L. Nardelli
The Home Depot has been the under the leadership of Robert Nardelli since 2000. Since Nardelli has been CEO The Home Depot has delivered superior sales and earnings by improving its core retail stores, extending the business and has expanded into new markets. He is changing store formats, creating more direct to consumer sales, offering installation services, and expanding into the global marketplace. Nardelli’s has made the main goal of Home Depot to “improve everything that we touch”. His goal by 2010 is to create 400 to 500 new stores.
Since 2000 Nardelli has helped home depot increase their sales by nearly 80% and has added more than 35.5 billion in
