Leaders are able to set a vision and direction for a company for the future and can cope with change. Lack of leadership in Worms’ is evident by the 40% loss of market share over a period a decade. Worms has failed to adapt to change.
To efficiently address the crisis Worms is facing they must adopt a transformational leadership style. Organizations utilizing a transformational strategy have the opportunity to motivate and inspire employees, especially when the company is facing a challenge or change in direction. The transformational strategy provides a sense of purpose and meaning that can unite employees to achieve a common set of goals.
Women are likely better suited in these leadership positions. Studies have shown women are more likely to be transformational leaders, defined as those who serve as role models, mentor and empower workers and encourage innovation even when the organization they lead is generally successful.
They must focus on communicating this vision Managers as well as employees are pursuing too much personalized power, or self-oriented goals, instead of socialized power, goal of helping others. Communication is poor between Worms’ management and employees, resulting in a lack of motivation for employees and a distrust of management. A leader will be a better motivator and better communicator at a management position and can better communicate and implement Worms’ vision and direction for the future.
Worms has to adopt a people oriented leadership style as opposed to a task oriented leadership style which is being used presently. Managers must communicate concern for their employees by establishing a warm, friendly, and supportive environment. For example, saying praise like “good job” or “nice work”. This leadership style is sensitive to subordinate’s ideas and feelings and will improve mutual trust, which currently is lacking.
Worms Inc. managing style within the company has proved thus far incapable of providing the necessary tools and resources in order for them to be successful. The goal of management should be to guide, teach, and mentor employees has the potential to be a valuable leader within the company . Leadership is most often born from great managers before them that help develop and flourish Worms’ workers are trying not to be fired! This �’me first’’ attitude is most likely coming from the top down, effecting every level manager and departments .
