Planning plays an important role in management as it sets a road or goal that an organization must follow to achieve maximum output. Planning is the efficient method of making decisions about goals and development of judgment about the activities necessary to produce a preferred future that an individual, group, work unit or organization will pursue. Management planning also involves various factors that influence strategic, tactical, operational, and contingency planning. Some consist of legal issues, ethics, and corporate social responsibility that have also impacted management planning.
Planning in management function is concerned with major goals for future organizational performance and deciding on the responsibilities and resources to be used in order to achieve those goals. For it to meet those goals, managers could develop plans such as a strategic, tactical, operational, and contingency plan. Planning always has a purpose. The purpose may be accomplishing of certain goals or targets. The planning helps in achieving these goals or targets by using the available time and resources. To reduce the timing and resources also involves correct planning.
There are many levels that management planning uses, one is strategic planning. Strategic planning determines where an organization is going over the next year or more and how it’s going to get there. Usually top-level managers are known for being the strategic planners. The process focused on major function such as long-term survival value, and growth of the organization. Strategic planners cautiously think about a range of active forces in the environment, for example increasing competition and changing demographics. Strategic planners as well look at the range of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats concerning the organization.
Reaching a strategic goal usually involves accomplishing a set of objectives in which it normally is called tactical planning. Tactical planning converts large goals and strategies into precise procedures to be taken within the division of the organization. The tactical planning is normally done by middle-level managers. Tactical planning turns strategy into reality by using the budget that was plan by top-level managers.
Operational planning is needed for it to reach the strategic planning goals. It is performed by lower-level managers who follow the specific procedures and processes required by the organization. It focuses on routine operational tasks and long-term projects. They are the one who gathers human resources and making sure that the production is running the way it is suppose too. Both operational and tactical is needed to accomplish the strategic planning. They all have to be consistent and constantly keeping there focus on the main goal to achieve maximum output.
By planning an organization managers needs to consider how the organization will or should operate at some point in the future and of how customers or clients are benefiting from the organizations products or services. This leads us to ethics. Ethics is very important for an organization to be successful in the long-run. Ethics is the system of rules that governs the human behavior and ordering of values, such as principles, morals, and beliefs. It’s what most company or organizations follow or hope that they do. Knowing what is right or wrong in the workplace and doing what’s right in which it has an effect on the products or services and in relations with its owners. It’s the values such as honesty, integrity, respect, and fairness that need to be associated in the company or organization.
Ethics in business is very important in which the moral principles and standards that guides behavior in the world of business should be followed. Lately business ethics has become a management discipline, especially since social responsibility was established. Some social awareness movement groups raised expectations of businesses to use their huge financial and social powers to deal with social problems such as equal rights, poverty, crime, education, environmental protection, and public health.
