The organization that I would like to use for my strategic plan outline is Disney. I chose this company because I used them for a previous assignment and the feel that I received just from their website was one of pure fun and enjoyment. Just the type of company that I think I would like to work for, after all work is supposed to be fun, isn’t it? As well as being fun, the organization seems to have a deep appreciation for their employees and the environment, both of which are important to me.
Background
The Walt Disney Company was founded in 1923 by Walt Disney. Today; Disney is divided into four major business segments: Studio Entertainment, Parks and Resorts, Consumer Products, and Media Networks
The Studio Entertainment unit is the foundation on which The Walt Disney Company was built. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts is home to Disney's beloved characters and operates or licenses 10 theme parks on three continents with an 11th park currently under construction in Hong Kong, along with 35 resort hotels, two luxury cruise ships and a wide variety of other entertainment offerings.
In addition to theme parks, Walt Disney Parks & Resorts also includes the world-class Disney Cruise Line, seven Disney Vacation Clubs and eight ESPN Zone dining locations and Walt Disney Imagineering.
Disney merchandising began in 1929. The Consumer Products segment is one of the largest licensors in the world and now extends the Disney brand to merchandise ranging from apparel, toys, home dйcor and books to interactive games, foods and beverages, electronics and fine art.
