SAFETY-KLEEN CORPORATION - OIL RE-REFINING
Our re-refining plants utilize the most up-to-date technology available. As a result, 100% of every dry-litre of used oil is returned to a useful life as a re-refined oil, industrial fuel, or asphalt extender. Every litre of used oil collected is tested before processing, including tests for PCB’s, total halogens, and heavy metals. Only oils which pass our rigorous quality control standards, and standards set by government regulatory agencies are accepted as feedstock.
The Process
There are three distillation stages, followed by hydrotreatment in the re-refining process. The distillation stages (dehydration, fuel stripping, and vacuum distillation) produce distilled oil, fuel and asphalt extender products. The distilled oil is then hydrotreated to yield finished base oils and light distillates.
Dehydration: Water and light end fuels are separated from the oil, at 135 C and atmospheric pressure. Fuels are stored for use in the process. Waste waters are removed for treatment.
Fuel Stripping: The dehydrated oil is fuel stripped at 230 C and moderate vacuum, condensed and removed to storage for use in the process or use as an industrial fuel by our customers.
Vacuum Distillation: Defueled oil is vaporized under extreme vacuum n a thin film evaporator at 370 C and/or in a vacuum heater followed by a flash column. It is then
