Executive summary
With the business expansion of business, it needs to conduct organizational change based on their existing problems. The purpose of this group project selects Countdown to identify relevant problems, analyze these problems and provide recommendations for the resolution of existing problems on planning, leading, organizing and controlling. Main problems are failure to instruct customer use self checking system, stealing, high absenteeism, and competitive pressure. For example, their employees are lack of commitment and appropriate interpersonal skills to their customers. High competitive pressure also causes reduction of performance. Managers of business organizations must have interpersonal skills in order to build best relationship with their customers and employees. The second problem is stealing. Suitable choice of leadership style can motivate their employees to avoid relevant stealing and shape high ethical issues to improve their performance and inspire employee loyalty. Directive leadership leads to greater satisfaction when tasks are ambiguous or stressful than when they’re highly structured and well laid out. Training program should be designed to improve interpersonal communication skills. Supportive leadership results in high employee performance and satisfaction when subordinates are performing structured tasks. Henry Mintzberg’s management roles model can be used to resolve the first problems because Henry Mintzberg identify ten roles of management. From clear identification of management roles, Countdown can design different methods such as training program, external recruitment program, effective communication channel selection and networking establishment in order to improve interpersonal skills of managers. Path-goal theory can be used to resolve relevant leadership style problems because path-goal theory identifies four leadership styles. It also identifies the advantages and disadvantages of different leadership styles. From comparison of different leadership style, managers of Countdown can choose suitable leadership styles in order to motivate their employees’ job satisfaction and improve employee loyalty. It also can use disciplinary action strategy to resolve problem. Code of Ethic should be build to overcome stealing problems in employees.
