While a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) candidate can come from all walks of life, I believe that the person seeking to earn her master’s degree in business administration had to be inspired to be in charge. I have that kind of desire, to be in control of my business and my destiny. To master the study of the theory and application of business, there is the expected rigorous curriculum and high demands on my time, finances (Schweitzer, 2008) and my ability, but I want to earn the right to hold the degree knowing that I have what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur in business. When I look closely at my current employment and potential, I have come to the conclusion that an MBA will increase my earning potential, skills and business connections.
It is believed that a master’s degree in business administration automatically enables one to earn approximately 50% more than those who do not hold the degree (bxbex.com). Upper level management positions, chairmen, executive officers and presidents are just a few of the jobs held by people who hold the MBA. With the opportunity to earn six figures, I am certain that working toward the degree will prove beneficial. Also, having aspirations of owning a business, I know that one in four MBA’s already do so (bxbex.com). The economy can prove troublesome for almost every kind of degree and job, but those who hold the MBA have probably been less affected by time due to their having a well rounded business education, including hands-on experiences.
Secondly, the MBA gives you the knowledge base that you need in order to succeed in the business world. Accounting, marketing, finance, statistics and economics courses provide a great foundation, while we also learn about leading and following instructions or teamwork. Today, everybody must possess a certain level of business sense and holding the MBA means I will stand far above the crowd, since I will have studied finance, global management or e-commerce, for examples. Graduate studies will give me the confidence that new situations will not necessarily bring new techniques or unfamiliar terms, that I will have already been engaged in numerous business related endeavors and had the opportunity to analyze, address and solve real problems.
