Organizational Behavior is the study of what people think, feel, and do in and around organizations. Organizational Culture is the basic pattern of common assumptions, values, and beliefs leading the way employees within an organization think about and act on problems and opportunities. Organizational Trends are patterns of change over time in some variable of interest.
In this paper we will evaluate two trends in organizational behavior. The influence of ethics on decision-making and the impact of technology on work-related stress will be examined.
Organizational Behavior Trends
There are several trends in Organizational Behavior. One trend is globalization. Globalization requires corporate decision makers to be more sensitive to cultural differences as they venture towards a wider variety of employees and clients. Another trend in organizations is the increasingly diverse workforce. Diversity potentially improves decision-making, team performance, and customer.
Technology is a relatively new trend to affect organizational behavior. While technology helps a company to produce products more efficiently it also can have negative impacts especially for employees. Stress is the foremost negative impact technology may have on a company. Technology has taken the place of many positions which used to be held by humans. Employees may begin to feel stress wondering is they may someday lose their job because it is cheaper for the company to automate their position.
Organizations can not control every decision an employee makes nor can an organization eliminate all variables of stress in the workplace. However, if the organization provides proper training to employees it can alleviate many of the issues faced by the organization. In this paper, I will evaluate the organizational behavioral trends concerning the influence of ethics on decision making and the impact of technology on work-related stress. Organizations of the twenty-first century are proving that in order to stay competitive they must reorganize the old hierarchical structure and transform into separate company hybrids. The old hierarchical control is somewhat still in tact but decision making and technology now influence the ways organizations are headed. Several organizational trends are continuing to affect organizations of the twenty-first century. For example, organizations are continuing to outsource leaving fewer jobs for current employees. Because of technology, jobs are more competitive and workers require more training.
