1. How does current information technology affect my chosen field?

        The field of business is an ever growing one and with that people need to use technology to simplify the way they do business. Technology can help you with three major parts of business; Marketing, Information, and Communication. When it comes to marketing

Businesses need to be able to use the web to not only advertise but to buy and sell merchandise. A new marketing tool is a QR or quick response code. A scan advertises your website address and includes any text you choose. (Linda Richard, Demand Media, 2015) The next part of business, Information, can cover different topics. But in this case businesses are able to use online databases and websites to locate potential employees, compare insurance proposals, tackle employee issues or check out the competition. (Linda Richard, Demand Media, 2015) Lastly, communication is very important to a business. It is vital that you stay in touch with your customers and the easiest way to do that is through email and even now there are ways to find email lists based on the demographics that you need.

2. What technologies are predicted to impact my chosen career in the next 5 years?

        I could talk all day about the new technologies that are “predicted” to come out within the next five years but, after lots of searching one thing specifically caught my eye. This technology is already in development and is said to be up and running by 2020. This new thing is called Web 3.0. In other words it is a new version of the World-Wide Web as we currently know it. This new way of surfing will simplify everything we do. Web 3.0 browser will act like a personal assistant and learns what you are interested in. (Jonathan Strickland, How Stuff Works, 2015) By using this new web it can not only help you find out your interests and help simplify your daily searches but, it can also find out what your current customers are interested in and how to find new customers. This new technology will help revolutionize the way we surf the web and will be a time saver for business owners.

3. What information technologies should I be able to work with when I graduate so that I will be successful in my career?

        One of the most important parts of business is data. It is the information that your business lives and dies on and if you do not know how to read it and organize it you could end up failing. A very easy way to organize data and much more is through Microsoft Office, specifically Microsoft Excel. There are three major ways that Excel can help your business; scheduling, accounting, and sales. Businesses with employees can use Excel to help them with scheduling. Businesses create basic employee and resource schedules with Excel that can be color-coded and designed to automatically update as the schedules change.(Kathy Burns-Millyard, Demand Media, 2015) Using Excel you can easily organize data about income and outcome but one of the benefits of using Excel in this fashion is that you can create charts and graphs over time to compare business income and expenditures.(Kathy Burns-Millyard, Demand Media, 2015) Lastly, you can use Excel to input data on sales and in return you will be able to compare progress over any period of time. Because of this you will also be able to spot trends, good or bad.
