P6-Describe how legislations and regulations have affected the three outlets
Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
This act ensures that the businesses must provide a safe and healthy environment for their staff and for their customers. Both employers and employees have a duty to make sure that the working area was safe so they cannot endanger themselves or towards customers.
• Morrisons must make sure that before beginning any lifting manoeuvre their employees, check that the weight is manageable, the area of lift is clear and the exit path is clear. If the lifting manoeuvre is complex, Morrisons must make sure that they use enough people because to avoid danger and reduce the risk of injury from these operations and to customers.
• Ali’s Newsagents must make sure to store and stack all materials safely. If this is not done properly, the customer is likely to result in a head repercussions due to the falling stack of inappropriate materials from the top shelve.
• Boots must make sure the premise is clean and tidy at all times. If there is spillage of liquid, it must me cleaned immediately and put up a yellow sign indicating the floor is wet.
Morrisons will be affected the most because they have to require more equipment, safety procedures and training for their employees so they are well trained for circumstances that may endanger their health which more money will be needed for a better ensuring and trustworthy staff for customers who may hesitate in the procedure such as a fire drill. Also they may change their supplier if they do not meet the standards of the health and safety act, which the supplier will need to be checked thoroughly by the Morrison staff before any demands are made.
Sales and Supply of Goods Act
This act refers to the customer regulations that they are entitled to expect any goods of any shop of satisfactory quality, fit for the purpose and the product as described. Businesses cannot put up notice saying ‘NO REFUNDS.’
• If Morrisons said that their wedges could be cooked in a microwave, it must be able to satisfy the customer for the wedges to be ready for the customer to eat straight away from the microwave without any obligations.

Boots will be affected the most because they sell mostly healthcare products, which Boots will need to check the product again if it is defective or it is unsuitable for customer use the supplier then can face severe penalties.
Consumer Protection Act 1987
This act refers to selling of unsafe goods, which a customer may be allowed to take the manufacturer or producer to court if the defective product causes any loss or damage. Also this act refers to misleading customers and selling illegal products which breech in to the safety regulations.

• If Morrisons put up a banner on their boundary wall saying ‘REASON 23 buy 1 get 2 free when it works out to be that the customer is paying for two products and getting 1 free then Morrisons must ensure their banner is correctly written or if someone had vandalised it, which the customer could not outline what it is really says then they could simply tell their employees to put it on the window or on top of the entrance securely.
• Catalogues can easily be obtained before leaving the store, which Boots print an offer saying Ј 3.00 off voucher valid till 2007 when really the voucher only lasts for a week. To ensure this will not mislead other customer they can put up a sign saying that there is a misprint on the back of the voucher.

Morrisons will be affected the most because the 1,2, 3, etc reasons provided by Morrisons, which one of the 123 reasons may be false which more staff will be needed to find the problem so it can be solved efficiently because time is money.
