Walmart Ethics Controversy
Wal-mart has long been a staple in the public eye as the "family" store; the one stop shop for all your needs at the best prices. The commercials portray the company as being all about family, the place you can go to Save money, Live better. Over the years the company has had several cases brought against them such as: treatment of female employees, wages, time off, insurance, and benefits to name a few. This year, 2015, the ethical issue of how the employees are being treated has been the topic of discussion. The company speaks about helping families and making the community better, what they do not share with the public is the amount of sacrifice that comes from the staff. Employees at one of the largest chains in the world are over worked and under paid. The proof of this comes as the holiday season is upon us and all stores are open earlier and longer, black Friday now starts on Thanksgiving Day, and they ask their associates to have "open" availability. The methods that this huge corporation are using to advance economically are causing a morale decline and societal issues. Less and less people have time to spend with their families. Open availability means Monday through Friday open to close and if needed overnight. How can they claim to be all about family when they do not think of the associates and their families, only their profit?
Ethics is the basic concepts and fundamental principles of decent human conduct. It includes study of universal values such as the essential equality of all men and women, human or natural rights, obedience to the law of land, concern for health and safety and, increasingly, also for the natural environment.
