Walmart Documentry
SWOT Analysis - Strength Weaknesses Opportunities Threats
In class this week we watched a documentary on Walmart and how some say how much of a corrupt and brutal business in the shadows it really is. So, after watching the video I went on my own to find some more in-depth details about if Walmart really is as bad as it was show in the documentary. First off, I found several and several sources on the web stating how great of a company Walmart is and how Walmart has made everyday shopping as people once knew it, just a whole heck of a lot easier. Researching on my own, I found an ongoing list of strengths of the Walmart cooperation. 100 years ago, if someone needed to do there weekly shopping, they go to the local market get their food, go home and carry on their day. The next day they will go to the local hardware store for a project they need to do around the house. The next day, they can go to the clothing store to get new clothes, and so on. Once Walmart came into town, there was no need for this. You could get up on a Saturday morning, grab your groceries, clothing, kid’s toys, automotive parts, you name it, and Walmart had it. With the crazy amounts of customers Walmart had, and the income, they bought and sold stuff in crazy bulks also allowing for them to bring the prices gown almost 50% of what other local stores would charge for same or similar items! Personally, me growing up, I can’t tell you the endless rides to Walmart I would take with my dad when I was little on a week night to pick something up that we needed for the house a Walmart, it seemed as if whatever it was that we need for the house it was Walmart that we would go to, and sure enough, they would have whatever we needed.
When taking a deeper inside look at the Walmart cooperation there is some bad in it I suppose you can say. When Walmart came into towns world wide it shut down lots of small family owned business, strictly for the only reason that these small stores couldn’t compete with the prices that Walmart was bringing into town. Although, I do believe in monopoly because it just shows one person that had a smarter idea, I feel that it must be fair. After watching the documentary and doing some more personal research on the web, I did find that there was some more crime in Walmart that has been covered up. Lots of the goods that are sold in stores, came from sweat factories in the Chinese and Asian communities. They came from people working 15 hours a day 7 day a week. They were getting paid way under the minimum wage, and the work conditions were un humane. Managers at Walmart did not treat people fairly, they valued men more than women, and didn’t pay them for some of the work that they deserved.
When looking at how much Walmart as a company has grown over the last 50 years, you wouldn’t think that they would be slowing down in their expansion anytime soon. Going to a store that has almost everything possible that you could ever think of, what’s better than that? There can’t be anything right? Well, that’s wrong, think about how easy it would be if you could get everything you needed, and it was brought right to you. That’s where Amazon comes in, the new “Walmart” of the new century. I feel as if I almost don’t even have to explain myself when I say the word Amazon. Basically, everyone knows that name and what it is. Amazon is basically a website that you can order literally everything that you need. Anything, you can literally buy anything from food clothes all the way to specialty items that you wouldn’t even be able to find in stores. This is where it is worrisome that it could put Walmart out of business. Another reason why people prefer amazon, is because the even cheaper prices. When you have a store like Walmart, you have the upfront cost of purchasing the store to sell the goods, where on amazon, it’s the internet, which is free. With, amazon can sell things at an even more outragedly cheaper cost then ever heard of or seen before. While looking more into Walmart I did find that Walmart says they have some new exciting news that will be released within the next year, I find that that will be very interesting to find out. Is it a delivery system that delivers your goods to your house for you or something like that?
