"A Rose For Miss Emily" Response Journal
The story A Rose For Miss Emily is unique to me. It is interesting but, it is not very clear. I am confused on some parts. What I did get from it is that her family was odd. Her father seemed like he did a good thing for the town they were staying in but, the way they were all described it seems as though they were weird people who thought they were superior. It may have been because of the family name. Miss Emily carried the death of her father with her in many ways. I don’t think she properly grieved for her father or she just never accepted that he was gone even though he kept away the men in her life. Maybe she was upset with him. Her character was not clear to me. It's almost as if she is being portrayed as a crazy woman. The end of the story leads me to believe she is really crazy. The room she kept locked for 40 plus years revealed who I think was Homer Barron laying dead in the bed. The scenario makes me think she used the poison to kill him once he came back after her cousins left since they found the iron gray hair on the pillow next to him. I think she was crazy enough to put the poison in one of his drinks, told him to go lay and get comfortable, and once he was dead to occasionally go and lay with him. Nothing in the story leads me to guess what her motive was unless she knew about noblesse oblige and she was secretly planning the entire thing. This story was weird but, I liked it. If I had a better understanding of everything it would probably be one of my favorites.
