Dr. Daniel Gilbert the PhD professor at Harvard and the author of stumbling on happiness discuss about how people may think that money brings about happiness. He first of all brings about a thesis saying that people think that material wealth will make them happy, and not that more will make them happier. The problem with this belief is that it’s just right enough to convince us it’s completely right.
People believe that more money makes them happy but it really doesn’t do anything for them Dr. Gilbert says that if you take a poor person into a middle calls zone that you make them extremely happy in the important ways which is that they can get rid of their hunger and concern of welfare and they can take care of their kids and provide shelter. But if you take a middle class person into an extremely rich life you do almost nothing for them. It’s like eating a chocolate bar the first bit is good the second bit is a little less so and eventually the last bit doesn’t do anything for you. Basically he is saying that the spending of more money than necessary doesn’t make you happy.
