Tom Evangelist is a bounty hunter in New York. He has a very strong passion for justice and for his job. This story opens with him having a phone call with his son’s principal because his son had been searched for no reason on account of a missing calculator. Even though this would have been a small issue for most parents and possible could have been easily resolved. Since Tom is a bounty hunter his perception of the law and justice are different then those of normal people.

He reflects many of the ideals of the justice and dignity because he feels so strongly about them. In the story the author explains to what degree he feels about justice and the law. The story mentions “He always carries the jurisdictionally relevant legal literature. In New York he takes section 530.80 of the Criminal Procedure Law (a procedural translation of the Constitution.” To further explain how important justice and the law is to him.
