EMP claims that it provides dynamic, multifaceted, ever-changing experiences through new and exciting explorations of American popular music that both entertain and engage visitors in the creative process. After read this, I was so eager to go and experience it, because I am not only new to Seattle, also new to America. I was looking forward to learn more about American music history and American culture from this unique museum. But through the trip to EMP, I found out that it is not a museum that worth for foreign visitors to visit as it had claimed. It’s layouts are confusing, the foreign visitor is inaccessible to the experience music lab, also it is poor representation of American society.

In EMP, the layouts are confusing. When you first get into EMP, the stores and restaurants come before the exhibits. After go through this, the exhibits are bombarded from every direction, make visitors not sure what to start from? What part should they visit first? After visit several of them, visitors start to get lose and confusing, not sure which one they had visited already and which one is not yet. Because the front door’s decoration for each section are almost the same, and the name plate for each section doesn’t display clearly in front of the enter, it usually hang on the top wall. Not only that, as I go through all the exhibits, trying to read the information on letter signs, hoping to get something out of the letter sign, the letter sign turn out to be is either too or too low, make my neck really sore, plus the light is really pale, it hurts my eyes so bad.

In Experience Music Lab entertainment, even if you don’t know anything about that music instruments, you can learn how to play a simple song by following the instructions, but the instruction is only in English, for the foreign visitors, not every visitors know English, so it’s not the entertainment for the visitors, it only make the visitors miserable and irritated. I remember that day when I was there, one of the Spanish ladies was following the instruction tried to play the song with the guitar, but it doesn’t work for her, because she doesn’t know English language, as a result, she was really unhappy with that. Some Americans
