Descriptive summary of “We Were Soldiers” directed by Mel Gibson
In November of 1965 tensions were high between the United States and Vietnam. At
the time the U.S Army, low on men and resources deployed the esteemed 7th cavalry
regiment lead by battle hardened intellectual Lt. Col Hal Moore to the eastern mountain
ranges of Vietnam.
While flying over Vietnam Moore and his men were astonished at the immense
beauty of the county with its unending rainforests, breathtaking mountain ranges, and
tranquil landscapes. The men were in awe, but knew that their enemy lied in wait in this
abyss of beauty.
On November 5th1965 a parade of helicopters carrying Moore and his men flew over
the La Drang Valley of Vietnam with the task of securing an air field in the desolate La
Drang valley. As the helicopter neared the ground the blades of the chopper roared like a
lion as it sent brush and debris whirling in the air. Draped in a cloud of dust Moore and his
men emerged from helicopter guns blazing prepared for battle, but to their dismay they saw
nothing. Erie for what was to come the men spent several minutes looking for signs of their
enemy as they patrolled the valley. suddenly the mountains surrounding the men lit up as
the sound of bullets began to ring all around. In the distance, they could see the glow off
muzzle flashes appearing as if the whole mountain range was on fire. The men were caught
in an ambush.
As the ground shook and the sky turned grew Moore instantly called for air support
and more men, but was told they would receive no help. Moore and his 500 men were
