Managing Human Emotions

Humans have certain ways they are able to control their emotions throughout the day. According to the

Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of emotion is, “A natural instinctive state of mind deriving from one’s

circumstances, mood, or relationships with others.” Children are the future, and if they are unable to control their

emotions, there will be a lot of violence. Children can manage their emotions with the help of adults, meditation, and

other relaxation techniques.

The emotions of children are equally as important as adult’s emotions. Children need to learn to manage

their emotions just like adults do. “Learning to understand and manage feelings is a complex skill. When adults

provide support and explanations, it helps children understand what they can do to manage their feelings” (psu.edu).

The article on psu.edu, insists that adults take the time out of their day to help their children to understand what they

are feeling. Children’s behavior comes from their emotions, and if they do not know how to manage their emotions,

they will most likely live a life full of confusion and anger.

In addition to the help of adults, relaxation techniques would help the child to develop strategies to manage

their emotions. Listening to music, being with friends, and other relaxation techniques will help a child manage their

emotions. “There are many techniques children can use to reduce their stress and relax. Depending on the child,

some may work better than others” (Kelly Roper). There are many different techniques such as; deep breathing,

progressive muscle relaxation, exercise, etc. Deep breathing is a great way to slow down the body’s response to

stress. Although it may be hard to teach your child these techniques, they will increase the ability to manage their
