Do you think short stories are boring? As stated “As an author of short stories, I am always trying to overcome the stereotypes about short stories. I constantly have to convince people that there are good short stories out there, and everything is not like the boring stuff they might have read at school –Anonymous”. Most short stories can be boring to some readers, but not all of them in general. There are many varieties of good short stories out there or that have been written with interesting storylines, positive facts and messages. Many readers out there can even connect themselves with the world. Although readers do believe all short stories are “childish” and/or “humorous”, but that is a definite negative statement. Most author’s target their audience to a well, matured group. For example, the author’s ‘Roch Carrier’ and ‘Edgar Allan Poe’ from the short stories “A Secret Lost in the Water” and “The Cask of Amontillado” state and/or give great messages to the reader.
To illustrate one point, “A Secret Lost in the Water”, doesn’t give a clear message of the story to the reader. It is very small to be noticed.
Along with, “The Cask of Amontillado”, the message from the author is quite clear—be very aware about how you treat others. No doubt, the golden rule is one message. Treat others the way you want to be treated. Montresor has taken insult from Fortunato. He has suffered many injuries.
