Future of Young Women
Some women plan to Ў§get their microbiology PhD or their law degreeЎЁ as Margaret Wente points out in her article Ў§Neil French is (mostly) rightЎЁ. They also Ў§plan to find a cure for AlzheimerЎ¦s or lead the fight for womenЎ¦s rights in the Third WorldЎЁ (Wente). In the past, most of these tasks were performed by men; however, this situation is now changing. An increasing number of women is engaging in science-related fields and many important positions in companies are given to women. The future looks bright for young women because of their increasing chances of education, their capability in work, and most importantly, their fight for gender equality.
There are increasing chances of education in both sexes. Limited by the society, many young women, especially those in traditional Chinese society, did not have a chance to learn in the past. Many of them were actually good learners if they were given an equal chance to learn as men. According to the article Ў§In a GirlЎ¦s World, It Can Be Tough Being a BoyЎЁ, Douglas Todd states that Ў§girls now do better in school than boysЎЁ (462). An Ontario study shows that Ў§grade 3 girls were doing better than boys at writingЎЁ and they are Ў§also doing better than boys at mathЎЁ (Todd 462). For university graduates, the number of women also Ў§far out-numbered the menЎЁ (Wente). All these facts show that women can learn as well as men or even better than men. Why women did not achieve academic success in the past is simply because most of them did not have a chance to learn in school. Being concerned about their academic achievement nowadays, many employers give job opportunity to women and some of them even assign high positions in a company to women. Thus, increasing chances of education pave the way for womenЎ¦s success.
Apart from increasing chances of education, womenЎ¦s capability in work also contributes to their bright future significantly. In Keith McArthurЎ¦s article Ў§Criticism of womenЎ¦s fitness for top jobs causes international stirЎЁ, Neil French claims that Ў§you canЎ¦t be a great creative director and have a baby and keep spending time off every time your kids are ill.ЎЁ He believes women cannot do the job. Many people think that women cannot maintain a balance between family and work. However, Margaret Wente points out that some women Ў§see no contradiction between family and a high-powered career.ЎЁ True, many women are engaging in professional work
