In Kasich We Trust
The race for Presidency has begun once again, candidates are beginning to place their bids but none reflect the same contingency as John Kasich. Governor Kasich announced his candidacy for the 2016 Presidency on July 21, 2015 at Ohio State University. He’s experienced, accomplished and has the background and temperament to be the next Commander in Chief. Kasich political aptitude can be seen as he spent 18 years in Congress, and became Governor of Ohio in 2011. While holding office in Ohio he overturned the $8 billion dollar deficit into a multibillion-dollar surplus. Kasich reversed Ohio’s job loss, creating a thriving economy for businesses and lowering unemployment. Kasich has a clear action plan for the economy, healthcare, and women’s health. Kasich is the choice to make in order to progress in the United States.
Mainly, Kasich aims to change the growth of the economy. Kasich has demonstrated that his actions on economy can lead to solutions when it comes down to deficit. According to Kasich’s website, when he took office as governor of Ohio, Ohio had lost more than 300 thousand private sector jobs and was the 48th state in the nation in creating jobs. Since the Ohio came under the leadership of Kasich, the state has created a series of jobs in the private sector while slowly increasing their minimum wage salary. According to Kasich’s website he would “…work with Congress…” in order to create a balanced budget plan in eight years along with creating a balanced budget amendment. Kasich believes that in the lowering of tax rates for individuals and businesses along with simplifying the numbers of income tax brackets from seven to three and would implement a top tax rate of 28 percent. Kasich supports reducing the top corporation tax rate from 35 percent to 25 percent, as this tax break would allow larger corporations to expand the amount of money they can spend on creating jobs. Kasich also supports in doubling tax credits for smaller businesses, he believes that there should be “no taxes on small businesses; kill the death tax” (CNBC 2015). Kasich believes that in allowing smaller businesses to not be penalized by all the tax codes, their contribution to the economy will be much larger than when the profits of a small business are delivered after all the taxes that were paid. Kasich believes that in lowering taxes companies will be allowed to create a more competitive environment, which allows businesses to foster job creations, and keep precious existing jobs in the country.
Even though Kasich believes that the economy takes priority, he feels like a change must be made in the healthcare reform. Kasich a man, who has never accepted that the government should overstep boundaries with healthcare, has in fact expanded Medicaid in Ohio. Kasich understands the needs of those who have healthcare problems but believes that the government has transgressed a boundary in how citizens decide to keep themselves healthy. Kasich has been very vocal about his opposition to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. According to Kasich’s website the United States should implement a system that has “patient-centered care, choices, market competition, decentralized decision-making, higher quality, respect for individuals and an end to Obamacare’s big government interference.” Although Kasich is a constantly quoted saying that Obamacare is an unnecessary need for a federal government to implement, he has proven otherwise. For example, Kasich believes that it is better to treat the mentally ill through the subsidiaries Obamacare offers instead of putting these people in jail(CBS 2016). Kasich also believes that it is necessary for a person to have preventive care instead of ending up in the emergency room in which it cost the government more to cover the cost. Kasich advocates that giving a certain type of health insurance to the poor working class is necessary as it is everyone’s “God-given right.” In the state of Ohio, Kasich has blocked most of the money that comes with Obamacare, but has admitted that it is cheaper to keep a person healthy instead of having to pay the high prices of an emergency. Kasich may have rejected all most of Obamacare. Kasich has created a solution for those who are not in Obamacare because “one size fits all” is the too much of generalization for healthcare.
