Philosophy of Teaching and Learning
Teaching and learning is a process which consists of an expert which transfers a specific knowledge to his or her student. This knowledge can be either content based or more abstract such as being able to reach higher levels of thinking and critical analysis. It is an ongoing, ever-changing process with infinite possibilities and outcomes. However, certain goals must be achieved through this process. This process is guided by the teacher who molds this knowledge so that it can be assimilated by the student. The teacher is responsible for the completion of this process and must find ways to reach his or her goals. The student is then held responsible for learning this knowledge and is expected to interact with his teacher in order to achieve the appropriate level of expected knowledge. The teacher in turn needs to assess the level of knowledge attained by the student and apply a plan of action in order to reach the level of desired knowledge. This process assures that the teaching and learning does actually occur.
The student plays a vital role in this process. He is accountable for his actions and must learn the content. The student will hopefully learn the knowledge given by the teacher in a pleasant, positive learning environment. Even though the student is in the classroom by law, they must understand that the purpose of their education is to better themselves. They are participants in a cognitive process that will ultimately favor their lives. All knowledge gained can be favorable and useful for the student’s life. Once the teacher sets the expectations, the students should respond and is encouraged to interact with the teacher.
The teacher also plays a very important role in this process, if not the most important. He is accountable for his actions and as a professional educator must take upon himself the responsibility for educating the student. He must develop a positive environment
