Decision-making is defined by the Encyclopedia of human behavior as “the process of arriving at a

decision after evaluating all relevant alternatives in

achieving a decision marker’s objective or

objectives.” We as humans make thousands of decisions

a day, some are simple decisions such as what time you

will get up, what you are going to wear; and other are

a lot more complex such as what house you will buy,

who you will marry. The more we make decisions the

better we become at it. We learn from past mistakes

and each time becoming more and more adventurous.

“This person (the decision maker) must decide which

course of action will lead to the accomplishment of a

desired objective or set of objectives.”(Decision 73)

Harold, in Harold and the purple crayon makes many

decision thought the book some are better than other,

luckily “he came up thinking fast” (Johnson 18) all

the time. The story starts with Harold wanting to take

a walk in the moonlight, he starts his journey with a

long straight path so he won’t get lost. But, he was

not getting anywhere; so he took a short cut a comes

across an area where he thinks there should be a

forest, so he draws on apple tree not wanting any one

to take the apples he also draws a dragon to protect

the tree, but he makes the dragon to scary and it

scares him, causing him to shake and be in over his

head in the ocean. Harold keeps clam and in able to

draw a boat to safe himself. After the boat ride

Harold decides that he wants to climb a hill, but the

hill be came a mountain, which he ended up falling

off, yet again thanks to Harold’s wit and purple

crayon he was able to save himself. He realized that

he was getting tired and tried to find his window. He

drew many different building with lots of windows,

but, none where his window. Then Harold remembered

that his window was where the moon was, and the moon

had always been with Harold.

In life we make decisions from the very beginning. As

a baby we deicide what we will put in our mouths, and

what makes us comfortable. We learn from these

Decisions. We also air on the side off caution, when

it comes to our first decision. We don’t want to make

a too drastic change. Harold’s first decision to take

a walk on a long straight path so he would not get

lost was a decision made with caution. He didn’t know

how things where going to turn out, so he started off

simple. “But he didn’t seem to be getting any where on

the long straight path.”(Johnson 6) Sometimes
