My American Dream

The American dream doesn’t have a solid definition, but for most Americans it means to have a white picket fenced house with two and a half kids and a stable, average job. The problem is that for minorities like myself, it’s not the same dream we share. Personally, my American dream is to have a career and job I am passionate about and not have to fit into society's expectations and regulations. My American dream is very self centered, not in a bad way but more in a way in which I want to better myself and be happy with who I become. I sincerely want equality and a beautiful healthy environment as well. I don't want to live in between wars and I want everyone to have an equal opportunity at accessing free education. I want to make my parents proud and give them a house that they don’t have to worry about paying off later on. Overall, you could say that my American dream is composing all the elements that matter the most to me and creating something beautiful that I can indulge in for the rest of life. The American dream is meant to be broadly considered and can be for anyone not necessarily having to be in America and should be specifically customized for every individual.     When minorities live in a predominantly white country, things can be difficult and perspectives will definitely be different. I believe that the American dream for minorities like my family and I is to try to fit in and be as American as possible without forgetting our heritage and culture. Yes of course we would still love to buy a house and have a stable, enjoyable job, but that dream is even more narrowed when adding the fact that most of my family members are immigrants to this state. There are many restrictions and prohibitions that limit us from getting the general white American dream. I use the term we various times because for Hispanics and other minorities family is vital and a part of you forever. We may move out and get our own house, but we always think of every single member of our family to make sure they are all happy and living an enjoyable life.
