Nature vs Nurture
There has been a debate about whether or not nature or nurture matters in determining the traits a person will have. The nature vs nurture debate within psychology is concerned with the extent to which particular aspects of behavior are a product of either inherited or acquired characteristics. Nature refers to all of the genes and all genetic factors that affect who we are, from our appearance to our personality . nurture refers to all of the environmental elements that influence who we are; from how we were raised to our surrounding culture . Are we born the way we act , or do we behave according to our life experiences? Basically does genetics or environment have a more impressionable role in the growth of one's personality. I will argue that nurture dominates nature because we aren't born with our behavior or personality.
Genes play a greater role in determining key personality traits like our learning ability than the way we are brought up by our parents.Bryan caplan argues that “parents barely affect their children's prospects on how well they do in life”. our parents need to stop trying so hard to change who we are because we're not going to change.nature dominates nurture because “ parents have little lasting influence on aspects of their child's life. Bryan caplan found some research on a pair of twins. According to the study of twins character is something we are born with.according to caplan nature rather than nurture is responsible for creating our personality.
The nurture theory states that genetic influence over separate traits may exist but, the environmental factors are the origins of our behavior. Jane waldfogel argues that “environmental factors and parenting have a major influence on child development. Parents are important in shaping what children will turn out like in life. Waldfogel explains that parenting is important in early child development.when children aren't introduced to some outside influences, parents will continue to be an important influence in their lives. Nurture molds us into who we are but we also have traits that determine how we act to.
Our genes do not define who we are, while our certain genes are present, they may be expressed depending on a whole spectrum of environmental and biological situations. There are thousands of experiences that a human has had in the first 7 years of their life. This alone helps form their identity they will have later on in life. The environment can change the way our bodies work. When establishing relationships between parents and children u still cannot conclude that nature is having an influence because it could be that similarities are done the way in which we are brought up.
I believe nurture has the stronger effect on making us who we are because the environment shapes us to become who we are. We have senses and traits that determine how we act. Although we do think differently when there are certain things such as peer pressure, there are only certain things that the environment can change in us. It cannot shape us into a whole person.
Nature is believed to think that traits found in our genes make us who we are.Our genes define who we are. Genes play a greater role in determining key personality traits like our learning ability than the way we are brought up by our parents. Nature is responsible for creating our personality. Nature rather than nurture is responsible for creating our personality, according to a recent study of twins, which found that character is something we are born with.
Scientists make a good point about genes but I think certain physical aspects come through genetics. Personality development is based on how a person has been nurtured through their lives. For example,a seven year old throws a ball at her sister, the seven year old gets
